Whether you have been able to "consciously uncouple" or are on opposite sides of a courtroom, there is always a story to tell. The ending of a romantic relationship makes a mountain between the "before" and "after", and we will explore each space in this generative workshop.
Within a safe and supportive environment, we will "unpack" the nuances and stigmas of breaking up through fiction, non-fiction, or poetry. We will use the time to both identify your narrative and refine your unique perspective.
This class is for those in the thick of it, on the other side, or just wondering who will get the new salad tongs when you separate. Through humor, sadness, resilience, and strength, we will turn our rage, tears, relief, and resistance into art. When you are no longer an "other half", there is new room to become whole.

Testimonials
“Rachel’s Writing for Mothers class was a revelation–her prompts and feedback are excellent, and she has a wonderful knack for getting people to go deeper while still being supportive and respectful of their writing journeys. I placed one of the essays that I worked on in her class with a dream publication just a few months after the class finished. I think everyone who identifies as a mother and has any interest in writing should take this class!”
–Sarah Jaffe, student, and writer
“Rachel Sherman is an incredible editor and book consultant. She helped me shape my memoir, Replacement Child, and I am grateful that I found her at exactly the right time in my writing process. Rachel is proficient at taking a broad brush view of a story as well as digging in to the technical fine-points of writing. On top of that, she is a pleasure to work with and ever sensitive to our writers thin skin.”
–Judy Mandel, author of Replacement Child

NY Times Bestseller!
“My debut story collection Last of Her Name would not have been possible without Rachel’s early encouragement and guidance. She gave invaluable feedback on individual stories and helped me form what would be the first iteration of my manuscript. Her notes were always succinct and insightful, and made me excited—and hopeful!—about my writing.”
